Bathroom
Tales: Private Voices |
Private Voices, Installation for a public bathroom, ceramic, fabric and sound, 2006 Private Voices is an installation created for a women's restroom (yes, it has urinals) as part of the Visualizing TRANS exhibition at the Kupfer Center in Madison, WI. This exhibition was held in conjunction with the Visual Culture Conference at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The sculptures on the walls are intended to reference the female body. The sound in this installation are the recordings of many different female voices all describing the role of the bathroom in their lives. They describe memories, public restrooms, privacy, body image, pregnancy and many more issues. The installation is an exploration of the role of the bathroom in relationship to gender idenity. The Kupfer Center is an old iron works facility, which has a raw, industrial quality. |
